Oct.3,2010
Dear Mom and Family,
How are things back in the Big PC??? It sounds like you all had a good week. I did as well. Im guess im especially on a Spirital high after conference this weekend as well.
The only bad thing was that i once again didnt get to work in my area much this week. I went on divisions all from Monday to Friday morning in an area called St. Tomas with my comp from last change Elder Nadeau. His comp Elder Corbridge use to be in my area and neither my comp or me have much time in the area and we´ve been having a hard time finding new investigators to progress so he came to show us around and to some of the people he was teaching before. I think it went really well.
I had a really good time with Elder Nadeau as well. It was really cool to see his progression in just 6 weeks too. St. Tomas is right by the ocean and is really pretty. We taught alot of good people. It was crazy b.c almost all of the black people there know english. It was weird. Also the branch president there is their lunch Comedor and they have a little 4 year old downs girl who likes to mimic people so she got on the chair behind me while i was eating and put her hands on my head and acted like she was giving me a blessing. It was really really funny. They also had a new month old baby that was really cute.
I really enjoyed this session of Conference. When i was little i use to think Conference was the longest weekend ever but the last two days were probably the fastest of my life. I learned and was strengthend greatly this weekend.
First off i want to say that there is no organization in the world that has the quality of leadership that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has. There was a talk that said as we get to know the savior more we will learn to trust Him more in our lives. I feel as I am listening more to the Prophets and Apostles of the Church I am growing to know them better and trust completely the councils that they give me as representatives and special witnesses of Jesus Christ.
There were some main themes that i was able to pull out of this conference. The first one is follow the Prophet and everything will be ok. He will lead us to our heavenly father. Many people talked about this theme but i think the thing that most reasured it to me was when President Monson spoke. (His talk in priesthood was one of the most powerful talks i have ever heard in my life). When he would speak i just felt that he is truely the Prophet chosen of God. He speaks with power and Authority. He speaks with the Trumph of Angels. He speaks with the words of God for our benifit. When i was listening to him something really powerful came to me. It was the truth that he really KNOWS the savior. Whether or not he has actually seen the Savior or not i do not know and really it doesn´t matter, he truely knows the savior. They are friends and they work together.
The Second theme was the one i needed the most choices and agency. Even when the talks werent about this topic many of the leader threw in that God has given us the opportunity to choose to do the things they were teaching us. Satan cannot force us to do wrong. Under his influnce we chose for ourselves to do wrong. Its really simple actually, we just have to choose the right. We have to learn what is right and do it. Its really not that complicated. I liked the teaching by President Monson that before this world Satan didnt trust us to make the right choice so he proposed his own plan. However God trusts us so he sent us here. It is cool to know that God trusts us to make the right choice we just have to always respect that trust.
The third main theme i felt of the conference was trust/faith in God. We need to give ourselves to the Lord completely without holding back trusting as we do these things that he will bless us and watch after us. We have to trust that his way is the right way. We need to have faith not fear. I am working to lose all fear of worldly things so i can have more room for faith in God.
The last theme was the perenial one Family home evening, Daily Family Scripture Study, and Daily family prayer. Also 1 on 1 interviews was thrown in a little. These are some very basic and simple things but are of great importance. They promised that if we will do these things we will have more strength against the adversary. So chose to do them. Choose to do the Basic fundamental things.
So conference taught me alot of good things but i know that it want do me any good unless i apply it to my life. I have to put in practice the things that the Spirit whispered to so that i may grow to be more like my father in heaven and have more peace and happiness in this life.
I also chose a talk that i that was good foreveryone in our family that i think would be good to go back and watch again and review.
HEATH- Elder Kearon (complete obedience)
MOM- Neil L. Anderson (stand with Christ)
ERIC- President Monson (3 R´s of Choices; from Priesthood session)
DAD- David M. McConkie (teaching)
ME- D. Todd Christofferson (Consecration) this was probably my favorite talk of the conference for me right now. It was filled with so many things i had been praying for. It was exactly what i needed. I need to study it more in full detail though so i can put it into practice in my life.
FAMILY- Pres. Uchtdorf (Fundamentals and Simplicity) this is the one i chose for our family to all study b.c i believe it can help us all greatly if we will institute what he taught in this talk.
In response to your questions mom. Elder Hills first name is Forest. Im not exactly sure about the missionaries but i think they are smaller guys. I dont really need anything in a package but i like getting letters if you want to send stuff. I havent gotten the pakage yet but we only get mail about once a month out here. Im going to the capital today though so i will let you know next week.
The last thing the Prophet told us is that he hopes we will read these talks when they come out in the Ensign. I hope you will all take that challange. I love you all and thank you greatly for your prayers and your love. You are an amazing family.
Love,
Elder Vincent
