Dear Mom and family,
It was great talking to you as well this week. It always nice to be able to talk to you all. Mom you should feel very lucky and blessed b.c i was talking to a guy yesterday who told me that they werent allowed to call home at all in his mission.
Yesterday was really nice but it really bugged me that the church attendance was way down. People took christmas as a time to not go to church either and that really bothered me b.c. Christmas is about focusing on Christ and what He means to us. The last few days I`ve been thinking about a relationship between Christmas and The sabbath. Here when we teach people about the Sabbath day they think that its impossible to not work on Sunday. However almost no one works on Christmas. If i were to tell someone here that i wasnt going to celebrate christmas this year they would look at me like im crazy but at the same time so many people dont keep the Sabbath day holy. Now in the Bible it is not a commandmant to celebrate Christmas but it is to keep the Sabbath day holy. People are just really dont understand the importance of keeping the Sabbath day holy.
Today I wanted to write something short about Faith vs. fear. One of my mottos that i have here on the mission is Faith not fear. I have written it on a lot of things to remind me. I have done this b.c i want my life to be controled not by fear that things are going to go wrong but faith that in the end everything will turn out ok. (John 16:33). I have really improved in this aspect over the last few months. I no longer let the fear of failure or the fear of pain run my life. Those are things that are going to come no matter what circumstances we live in. I read a talk by elder costa of the 70 that he gave a byu that talked about Boats are built not to be in the harbor but to be out at see. we need to have to have faith in our maker and that he will never throw us something that we cannot handle. I wanted to write you to invite you to think about the aareas in your life where you have fear and try to fill them with faith (especially mom). Faith cannot exist where there is fear. Now i am still afraid of snakes and dogs a llittle i have almost completely conquered that fear :). (though i am still always cautios it is not so much a fear anymore)
I love you all so much. You are all my best friends here on earth. Thank you for all of your love and your prayers.
Love,
Elder Vincent
